Turning a passion project into a workshop
Role: Visual Design, Art Direction, and Marketing
OPPORTUNITY
While working for an in-house design team, I wanted to expand my portfolio by pursuing a personal project I was passionate about.

OBJECTIVE
I decided to create a photo series about abolishing beauty standards and normalizing the sensuality of the famine body. I embraced mainstream "flaws" by refusing to edit out any skin textures, colors, rolls, or abnormalities to promote authentic, natural beauty.

ACTION
I wanted to play with the idea of female bodies being consumed by the male gaze and take women's sensual power into their own hands, submerging women into a milky bathtub to represent the sweet girl-next-door stereotype mixed with the independent women owning the body she was born with. I created multiple print products: a calendar, postcards, stickers, prints, and promotional fliers. I also established a social media account and designed graphics to feature this photo story for a marketing campaign.

RESULT
Produced After spreading my work through the Washington, D.C. community where I lived, I was able to connect with local shops to promote and sell some of my artwork. I also hosted several workshops about the dangers of photo manipulation on mental health and body positivity for over 100+ women in 2020.
1. Promotional photos and stop-motion video for the 2019 calendar.
2. Print products designed to promote the series.
3. Part of the social media strategy on Instagram to feature the artwork.
4. Sample prints that were designed and packaged in local shops.
